Swedish pike fever!

Here’s the first report from the Swedish wilderness. The first few days have been awful to say the least with terrible weather and only one bite after 8 hours of fishing. Despite rain, sleet and wind
yesterday, this morning I awoke to fantastic weather with no wind and lightly overcast.

Expectations are therefore high, already at the first strokes of the oars.

It wasn’t long either before my Alien Eel Firetiger was in action. After a short fight I was able to land a really nice pike 5.34 kg, which was also a new personal record.

5,34 kg
The Firetiger had hardly touched the water before yet another pike struck and here the scales showed 5.44 kg – again another personal record. Awesome.

The next hour nothing happened, so it was time for a change, as the clock approached 10 and therefore breakfast time. A large rubber wobbler (Kickin’ Minnow 25cm – 150g) attached and before long a 3.5 kg pike turned up. 10 minutes later the rod with the rubber wobbler bent again, and a fat, beautiful lady-pike of 6.01 kg was landed becoming the 3rd personal record of the day – Oh Yeah! :)

New PB - 6,01 kg og 89 cm

That was the end of 3 hours morning fishing with 4 lovely pike in the boat; 3.52 – 5.34 – 5.44 and 6.01 kg. All fish were of course released again.

3,5 kilo
Hopefully I can take another tour this afternoon and who knows, maybe another PR awaits?:)

New PR – Again!

The time was 6 am: The alarm clock rings and a couple of hours morning fishing awaits. It is cold and misty. The temperature is just over 5 degrees, with a strong wind. It is one of the days where one ought to have stayed under the warm duvet, but after yesterday’s good fishing I just had to go out again.

Unfortunately it was only a couple of hours fishing, as the rain and wind made it impossible to steer the little rowboat. But…all the hard rowing was rewarded with yet another PR – pike at 7.47 kg being hauled in – YES! Again it was the large rubber wobbler (see previous section), which trapped the pike.
New PB again - 7,47 kg og 104 cm
As I was alone in the boat the picture is unfortunately not so great.

That was the end of four delightful days in Fengersfors, Sweden. The final count was 5 fine pike between 3.52 – 7.47 kg. All fish struck whilst trolling at the bank in 3 – 7 meters of water.

Yippee – New gear!

Now we are approaching the 1st of May and the annual pike prizes. Although all my fishing boxes are full up, I found just a little gear; mostly jerk baits and vertical jigging gear, which I simply could not do without. Every fisherman knows he must never run short of gear :)

The gear was purchased from Jagtogfiskerimagasinet.dk, Beten.nu and Sportfiskeprylar.se

I also decided to buy a couple of jerk baits from Svartzonker, as they, according to catch reports, seem to be amazingly effective on the Swedish lakes. So maybe they can get a couple of large pike to bite here at home? I am looking forward to trying them out anyway.

Luckily I will get the chance to try out some gear next week, when I take a four day trip to Sweden
with my girlfriend. It will be awesome and I hope to be able to show you a couple of big tough
Swedish pike :)

Here we go

After being inspired by the exciting fishing blogs in Denmark and Sweden we have decided to have a go at blogging ourselves. We were both intrepid fishermen throughout our childhood, but all fishing stopped with the start of college. Now, around 10 years on, we have again caught fishing fever, and the hunt is on for the large Danish game fish. We are certainly not those who catch the biggest fish (yet), but we can without doubt contribute with loads of catch reports, fine pictures and perhaps some good tips – Who knows? :)

The blog is still under construction, so please be patient with the technical glitches that will pop up from time to time.

Tight lines!
